Lesson 15.Locative Case

Lesson Goals

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Understand the functions of the Locative case in Serbian
  • Recognize locative endings for singular and plural nouns
  • Use locative for location and topics
  • Combine locative with common prepositions

1. Function of the Locative

The locative case is used:

  1. To indicate location — where something/someone is
  2. To indicate topics — what something is about
  3. Always with prepositions (never used alone)

Questions: o kome? (about whom?) / o ÄŤemu? (about what?) / gde? (where?)

Examples:

  • Ĺ˝ivim u Beogradu. — I live in Belgrade. (location)
  • PriÄŤamo o Ani. — We are talking about Ana. (topic)

  • po (around, through) — po kući (around the house)
